The Annual Flying Officer Abhimanyu Singh Chauhan Memorial Football Match 2018 was played on 14th July 2018 on his 40th Birth Anniversary.
A brief description about Abhimanyu aka Manyu. Manyu was born on 14th July 1978 at Jaipur. A through out Xavierite and Passed Xavier’s in 1995. After Schooling, he took admission at Maharaja College for B.Sc. while in college he passed NDA entrance test and hence selected for National Defence Academy (NDA) Khadagwasala, Pune. He completed his three years of hardcore training and was graduated from the academy in the year 2000. Later He joined Air Force Academy Hyderabad for one year. On 16th June 2001 Flying officer Abhimanyu Singh Chauhan was commissioned with Officer Rank in INDIAN AIR FORCE. He did a heroic act at Tezpur Flying Airbase by flying fighter plane near China Boundary for 75 Times besides threat warnings by terrorist organisation. On the unfortunate day of Nov 14th 2002 while patrolling near Indian North-East border, he attained martyrdom , he was flying MIG-21 which is famously called as “उडऩ ताबूत”. His last rights were performed at Jaipur with Full military rituals. Manyu was awarded as Exceptional Pilot when he was just 23 years because of his exceptional skills in flying MIG 21. He was awarded with “विशिष्ट सेवा पदक” after martydom for exceptional services & military intelligence”. Manyu was a born player and his favorite sport was FOOTBALL, he was a regular Team player in School team, he played Nationals too and was a regular player for his college and later NDA. He played a vital role in defeating France Defence Academy Team and thus awarded as “Most Energetic Player” by Admiral of France Defence Academy.
The match was played between Xavier’s Alumni and Xavier’s School Football Team. Both the teams showcased excellent team work with amazing foot, mind and body work, the spirit of FIFA WORLD CUP remained alive when visitors watched this spectacular match. Spectators were glued to there seats and places through out the game while watching the juggling skills of old war horses and New Comrades . The score was leveled with “THREE ALL” (3-3). First Goal for Alumni was scored by Justin Varkey (1994 batch) and for Xavier’s School it was Ashish Swami (Son of Ashutosh Swami 1989 batch). Suresh Nair of 1989 batch was the Captain of Alumni Team and as usual he was ready with his all Guns firing. It’s not about winning or loosing, It’s all about Xavier’s and being a Xavierite. We are Thankful to Xavier’s Alumni, School Team and School Management for helping us in organizing this close to heart event. School Team was awarded with Rs. 1100.00 cash by Xavier’s 96 batch. RUNNING TROPHY was handed to both the teams by Dr. Ranawat president Alumni and Abhimanyu’s parents. Ex Com members were present to manage the match and celebrations there after. Family Members of Manyu were The Chief Guest for the occasion and we felt the happiness in there eyes when they witnessed the celebrations. Though they can’t get Manyu back as they sacrificed him for our country but we assure them that They will get more than 8000 Manyu when ever in need.
